Neurofeedback for Learning Disabilities (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia)
How Can Neurofeedback Therapy Be Used to Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, or Dyscalculia?
Research on the effectiveness of neurofeedback for learning disabilities is in its early stages. A few small studies have been completed showing that neurofeedback can be useful in several types of learning disabilities, including difficulties with reading and math. However, the anecdotal patient evidence is overwhelmingly positive.
At Cognitive Solutions Learning Center, Inc., we have worked with thousands of children, adolescents, and adult clients with learning difficulties and diagnosed learning disabilities such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, and Attention Deficit Disorders.. We have consistently found it to be helpful, and often recommend neurofeedback when standard educational practices and tutoring do not seem to be producing positive benefit.
Neurofeedback for learning disabilities is often especially helpful with the difficulties with frustration, irritability, anger, anxiety, and mood that very often accompany learning disabilities. Auditory, visual, and executive processing dysfunctions can also be improved through neurofeedback.
What is the Length of Neurofeedback Treatment?
Neurofeedback training at Cognitive Solutions Learning Center in Chicago consists of a series of thirty-minute sessions. A typical treatment program requires 20 to 40 training sessions. Because Neurofeedback is a learned skill, improvement is gradual and occurs over time. Some individuals may need more training to achieve the full benefits of the therapy. Improvements in attention, organization, and behavior are typically well retained on a long- term basis.
